The Royal Parks are committed to equality of opportunity and actively encourage applications from all sectors of our community.
As a Government agency of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), The Royal Parks’ commitment to equality and diversity is documented in the DCMS Equality Scheme 2007 – 2010.
Our approach to the principles of fair and open competition is set out in our Equal Opportunities policy.
One way in which we show our commitment to equality of opportunity is to display the 2 Ticks Disability Symbol and follow the five commitments agreed with Jobcentre Plus. Jobcentre Plus states that:
"….the symbol is a means of communication. It is intended to help you to inform the people you employ, and disabled people who might be interested in your organisation, that you have a positive approach to employing disabled people".
The five commitments are:
- To interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a vacancy and consider them on their abilities.
- To ensure there is a mechanism in place to discuss, at any time, but at least once a year, with disabled employees what can be done to make sure they can develop and use their abilities.
- To make every effort when employees become disabled, to make sure they stay in employment.
- To take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work.
- Each year, to review the five commitments and what has been achieved, to plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know progress and future plans.
